When we’re lazy, we may miss the chance to become awesome. We might have to depend on others and, even worse, become a burden to them, which is not easy at all. The following story will introduce you to a lazy girl who underwent an amazing change after a great adventure. Let’s find out!

***

Once upon a time, in a country, there was a noble family. They lived in a giant castle with towers that touched the sky. Their rooms were filled with shiny treasures, like golden goblets and sparkling jewels. They wore fancy clothes with silk and velvet. They feasted on delicious food every day. They had more than twenty servants doing daily tasks for them.

The owner was a widower. He lived with two sons and a little daughter. The daughter was Anna. Anna was a sweet girl. She had soft golden hair that gleamed like sunshine. Her smile was cheerful, like a freshly bloomed flower. Her big eyes were blue like the summer sky.

But Anna was incredibly lazy. She never lifted a finger to do any work. Even simple tasks like brushing her hair were done by her servants. Her favorite pastime was sleeping. She overslept, and she often left her breakfast uneaten. What a waste of food! People in her family often caught her sleeping in the garden, under a random tree. Her father pampered her so much that he ignored her flaw. Her laziness became worse and worse. She often dozed off while reading. She should have paid more attention to her studies.

**

One day, Anna joined her dad and her brothers for Sunday brunch. Anna enjoyed her favorite desserts and tea while the others shared exciting stories. Her brother had just come back home from a long journey. They told a story about a town where people wore funny hats and spoke weird language. Her father laughed a lot. And they talked and talked.

Anna was not interested in the story. She stared at the faraway forest, the sky, and the flowers. She felt the cool breeze on her skin. The peaceful bird chirping filled her ears. She let out a big yawn, and her movements slowed down. Anna’s eyes were closing, and her head was drooping.

“Bang!” A heavy sound as Anna’s head bumped into the table. She had dozed off!

“That hurts!” Her eldest brother laughed at her.

Anna felt embarrassed. Her cheeks were blushing.

“Are you tired, Anna?” The other brother asked with concern.

“No, I’m good,” Anna replied. “I was just… thinking.”

Her dad looked at her tiredly. He stood up and said to his children.

“I have to go.” Then he walked away.

“Wait, Dad. How about the plan for the next trip!” Her eldest brother followed him.

The other brother tapped her shoulder and comforted her.

“It was getting cold, Anna. Let’s go inside and you can get some sleep.”

Anna denied her brother. She wanted to stay alone for a while. Then they said goodbye. Her brother left after that.

Anna was sad. She envied her brothers because they could travel a lot. She picked up a cupcake and took a bite. It was perfect with a tasty swirl of creamy frosting. Its sweet aroma teased the senses. A burst of heavenly flavors danced on the taste buds with each bite. And it made Anna forget what just happened to her.

She ate one more cupcake, then two, and many more until she felt thirsty. Anna drank a cup of tea, then two more cups, eventually finishing the entire pot. Now, Anna was full. She felt the cool breeze on her skin. She listened to the peaceful bird chirping and let out a big yawn. Her eyes closed, and she fell asleep.

A hungry monkey came across and saw Anna sleeping near her table. He was happy to find a lot of cookies and fruit on it. He looked around and found no one else but the sleeping girl. The monkey sat down and enjoyed the treats.

As the sun went down, Anna’s dad got worried. He had not seen his daughter since the afternoon. He was afraid that his late reaction might have upset her. Then he asked his servants to find her. When one of the servants entered the garden, she suddenly spotted the monkey and screamed in panic. It frightened the monkey. He quickly fled into the forest with the fruit and cookies. Anna then woke up due to the noise.

When Anna’s dad heard the story, he got mad but tried to let it go. The funny tale spread in the village, and Anna got the nickname “Anna the Lazy.” She felt very embarrassed. She locked herself in the castle and cried for many days.

One sunny day, Anna’s father decided to take his whole family to the nearby forest for a picnic. For the real reason, he wanted to cheer Anna up after her recent embarrassment.

They carried baskets with sandwiches, fruits, and sweets and walked inside the forest. The forest was dense, with many big trees, their branches forming a green roof overhead. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, making a great view. The falling leaves and branches built up a relaxing layer. Anna’s family walked on it with satisfaction as they enjoyed the beautiful bird songs.

After the family picked their spot, Anna’s father rested under a tree. Anna’s brothers laid out blankets and arranged the food when Anna was distracted by some butterflies.

Anna followed a beautiful butterfly and left her brothers waiting behind. Then, she got lost. Anna was extremely worried and started running around to find her family. But she ended up going deeper into the forest.

The forest seemed to go on forever. It was getting dark, which made Anna scared. She couldn’t stop walking forward. She heard some weird sound from something behind her. It was creepy!

Luckily, she spotted a light from a far distance. She tried her best to run towards it. She found a small wooden house at the end. When she entered the house, she saw a lot of fruit on a large table. She was hungry, so she ate all the fruit on it. She didn’t know what she did without permission was wrong. After eating all the fruit, she was full. She also felt tired. Anna found a cozy corner in the house and rested her eyes.

**

Anna woke up to the sound of an angry monkey in the morning.

“What did you do’? Enter my house and eat all my food!” The monkey blamed Anna for stealing his fruit.

This monkey could talk, which shocked Anna. She was scared and embarrassed. She did not answer him.

The monkey got angrier. He stared at Anna for a while, which gave her goosebumps. But he suddenly recognized Anna. She was the girl who slept near the brunch table a few days ago. It was him, the monkey stole her food.

He did not dare to blame her because they were both bad. They stole food without permission. He forgave her and asked her to leave his house. But Anna had no idea how to return home. She begged the monkey to help her. Her stomach even made a sound because she was hungry. The monkey found it funny, but he was in the same situation. He hadn’t eaten anything since last night.

The monkey thought for a moment and then told her, “I’ll show you the way home after we eat something. Let’s follow me to find some food.”

Anna agreed without hesitation.

Anna followed the monkey and walked along the river. The monkey told Anna it was his regular path to an area where he often found fruits and nuts.

Because Anna was usually lazy, she got tired very quickly. She strolled and stopped often, which made the monkey annoyed. “Don’t make me wait for you. Stand up and go, or I will leave you alone,” the monkey said. Anna listened to him in sorrow. The monkey was too strict, unlike her father, who was warm and easily forgave her mistakes.

After a long walk, they eventually arrived at a place with many apple trees. Anna and the monkey were filled with joy. Anna was about to reach a tree branch and pluck an apple, but the monkey stopped her.

“It’s not for us. Some apes ruled this place. Please don’t do anything stupid that wakes them up. Quickly pick up the apples lying on the ground and leave.” The monkey whispered to Anna and pointed at some apples nearby.

Anna looked tiredly at the apples. They looked dirty.

“Don’t worry. There aren’t any apes here. I’ll make it quick!” Anna comforted the monkey. Then she tiptoed to an apple tree and swiftly picked an apple. However, she accidentally moved the branch, causing the entire bush to shake.

Unluckily, an angry ape appeared. He looked mad, with wild eyes and loud roars.

“How dare you come to my land and steal my fruit?” He yelled and threw branches at Anna. Anna was in a panic. She quickly hid behind the monkey.

The monkey attempted to ask for forgiveness, but the ape ran towards them. He tried to hit Anna, but the monkey covered her. The monkey got injured from the ape’s hit and lay on the ground, moaning in pain. Anna was shaking. She screamed and cried in panic.

“Please forgive us!” The monkey pleaded.

The ape glared at them angrily, “Never let me see you two again. Go right away!” Then, he turned his back on the injured monkey and Anna. He climbed a tree and started eating apples as if nothing had happened.

The monkey held Anna’s hand and said, “Anna, take me home.” Anna quickly carried the monkey on her shoulder. “I’m sorry. I should have listened to you.” She felt regretful that she had put the monkey in a dangerous situation. Now she understood how hard it was to find food or survive. “It’s ok!” sadly answered the monkey.

**

Anna left the monkey lying on the table. She was tired and hungry. She looked at the monkey worriedly. She knew that he was hungry, too.

“You rest, and I’ll go find something to eat!” The monkey didn’t say anything. He was so tired that he fell asleep after they got home.

Anna stepped out of the monkey’s house. She started to walk along the road opposite the way to the ape’s place. She was determined to find food for the monkey and make up for her mistake.

Anna started her journey to find food. When she walked through a brush, Anna almost stepped on a colony of ants. She saw them carrying food back to their nest. Anna remembered that every time she saw ants, they were working. She was amazed by their hard work. She asked the ants why they were working so hard, and they replied, “We have a big family, you know! We work hard to feed our families and survive.”

Next, she came across a spider busily spinning silky webs. Anna watched in wonder and asked why she was working so hard. The spider explained, “I weave these webs to catch my food and stay safe. It was not easy to live in a dangerous world like this.”

As they continued her journey, she met a playful squirrel. The squirrel jumped from tree to tree. He filled his mouth with a lot of nuts. He looked funny. “Why does the squirrel need a lot of nuts?” Anna thought. Then she asked the squirrel why he kept working. He had enough nuts. The squirrel replied, “I collect nuts to store for the winter when food is hard to find. You don’t want to spend your whole winter with an empty stomach, do you?”

Anna started to realize that animals in the forest had to work hard to survive. Unlike her, she had a great life in the castle. She did not care about anything. She just took things for granted.

As she did not give up on trying, she finally found an area of many fruits. She could see red apples, yellow pears, and juicy peaches hanging from the branches. There were also oranges, lemons, and limes. It’s like a fruity wonderland! She jumped in happiness. But this time, she was more careful. She shouted,” Is there anyone here? I am Anna. My friend and I are hungry. We would love to have some fruits here. Please allow me to take some home. I will be very grateful for it!”

Nobody answered her. Anna thought she was safe to approach the trees. She quickly came, plucked as many fruits as possible, and brought them home.

The monkey was surprised when he saw Anna go home with many fruits. He was also proud of her. She even found a new place to find food. Anna was so happy that she could help the monkey. They ate until they were full. Then, the monkey accompanied Anna back home.

Eventually, they made their way back to the castle. Anna bid farewell to the monkey and invited him to her family’s brunch sometime. They hugged to say goodbye.

When Anna’s dad saw her in the garden, he rushed to her and hugged her tightly. He had been searching for her all day and night. Anna comforted her dad and promised never to let him worry about her again.

Anna had learned a valuable lesson about the importance of hard work. Her adventure transformed her into a more responsible young lady. She no longer took her pampered life for granted. She asked her brother how to prepare brunch. She assisted her father in making tea. She read more and studied hard. Now, her nickname should be ‘Anna the Hard-working.’

Anna learned after her journey that working makes her happy and fulfills her. Just working smart and hard helps us reach our targets. Even if it’s just a small thing, you have to try for it if you want it.
